Lori earl: executive director

In 2011, the Earl Family founded TSWGO in honor of their daughter Esther Grace, who died at age 16, four years after her diagnosis of thyroid cancer. Lori is an educator at heart, certified as a middle and high school English teacher, and experienced as a college instructor and Student Success Coach. With degrees in Psychology and Intercultural Studies, Lori is passionate about encouraging others to move towards wholeness, live life fully, and make a difference in their world. Lori, along with her husband Wayne, are the proud parents of five children, and one granddaughter!

Ted Waterman: board chair

Ted Waterman joined as Board Chair in 2017, partnering with Wayne and Lori Earl to help build long term stability for TSWGO.  Ted is passionate about doing work in service to others in need. He has worked in the nonprofit area for twenty five plus years in direct service and in administrative services.  He is currently enrolled in Notre Dame’s Executive Masters in Non Profit Administration (EMNA) program and is excited to bring energy and passion to support the awesome efforts of TSWGO in support of families dealing with the ravages of cancer.  He happily shares the parenting duties of three energetic young boys with his wife Sara, an Italian transplant.

Arielle Roberts: board member

Arielle is a graduate of The New England College of Optometry. Her passion to help make a difference in people's lives has led her on the path to becoming a doctor. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors of This Star Won't Go Out, she also volunteers for The Harry Potter Alliance, a nonprofit organization that uses fans’ love of story to help promote civic engagement and fight injustices in our world. Arielle loves all things nerdy, and in her free time can usually be found simultaneously watching way too many television shows, chatting with friends online, and enjoying a nice cup of tea.

Michelle Vander woude: board member

Michelle is a board member and the Founder and Co-Director of Team Awesome, TSWGO's official fundraising group. Team Awesome grew out of Michelle's love for TSWGO & Nerdfighteria, her need to decrease world-suck, and her insane dream of becoming a distance runner. When she is not working with Team Awesome, Michelle is a music teacher at an elementary school on the south side of Chicago. She and her husband Jon recently moved into their first house, where they live with their two adorable cats. Her ultimate dream is to one day have nerds all over the world walking, running, swimming, biking, pogo-sticking, and hula-hooping with Team Awesome for TSWGO and its awesome mission!

Alexa Lowey: board member

Alexa is a childhood friend of Esther, and a creator the This Star Won't Go Out bracelets. She is a graduate of Elon University in North Carolina where she was passionately involved in philanthropic efforts to find the cure for cancer. She hopes to one day live in a world without cancer, but until then is ready and willing to do whatever it takes to make a difference.

Emily Sichel: Board member, staff manager

Emily started as an intern for TSWGO in the summer of 2012, and now is the Volunteer Staff Manager. In addition to her work with TSWGO, she loves fundraising each November for the non-profit Movember, a national organization that raises awareness and funds for men's health issues. Emily likes Snitchwiches, podcasts, movies and music.

Ami El Khatib: partnership coordinator

Ami went to Suffolk University where she graduated with a degree in Print Journalism and International Relations. She pursued her passion for health and fitness and now works at TITLE Boxing Club. Ami has been volunteering for TSWGO since 2013 and took on the official role as Partnership Coordinator in late 2014. In addition to working out and volunteering she also loves brand loyalty, coffee, tea, soap operas, books, and her cats.

Elli streifer: staff

Elli is a senior at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. She is studying sign language interpreting and is passionate about making all media fully accessible. When not working, studying or volunteering, Elli is either competing on the RIT equestrian team or re-listening to Harry Potter and John Green audiobooks.

Jenna mosillami: Social Media

Jenna is a recent graduate of Roosevelt University with a degree in Media Studies.  She loved Harry Potter so much that she did her senior thesis on the fandom! She loves spending her time listening to podcasts and playing pokemon.  She's the social media manager for TSWGO.

CHase Priest: videographer

Chase is an editor from Charleston, South Carolina. He likes reading and spending time with his cats. He likes Harry Potter a whole lot.

Emily cole: Social Media & Design

Emily is a senior at Simmons College studying Public Relations and Journalism with a concentration in radio and social media. She helps TSWGO design logos and eye-catching material as well as helps to run the various social media pages! When Emily is not thinking of her next post or graphic, she is playing with her dog, Stevie, exploring Boston, or binge-watching the latest nerdy show on Netflix. Emily loves putting her kindness and passion into important and giving organizations such as This Star Won’t Go Out.
