15-year-old Simon Eber’s dream of creating birthday boxes for at-risk and at-need families to help provide them with everything they would need to have an amazing birthday got a jump start on January 19, 2019. This Star Won’t Go Out’s Executive Director, Lori Earl, was there to celebrate this kick-off event which became possible when Simon won a $5000 grant from TSWGO’s Project LOVEly initiative to inspire awesome in young people

With the help of friends at The Pie Store at Table Talk Pies  and the volunteer staff of local kids aged 7-17, Simon and his team jumped right in starting at 9am! Once they had assembled and decorated the boxes, it was time for the real fun—stuffing the boxes with everything a child would love and need for the best birthday ever. From plates, forks, napkins, cups and party games, to goodie bags for guests, these awesome kid volunteers packed it all into the boxes, but they didn’t stop there. Simon wanted to add a little more awesome for the Birthday Stars.

In addition to their Birthday-in-a-Box of awesome, the Birthday Star also receives three special gifts: a gift of need, something fun, and a handmade Annie’s Kindness Blanket. And what would a party be without cake?! Each birthday box comes with an order for a beautiful, customized cake from The Queen’s Cups in Worcester. No cake mixes, and no equipment needed! All of this is wrapped in a box to help the Birthday Star feel loved and special on their birthday.

By the end of the day Simon and his crew had 600 goodie bags and 50 Birthday boxes ready to go out to some pretty special kids. We loved seeing the community coming together to provide amazing memories for kids in need.
